What Is the Treatment for Nephrotic Syndrome if Steroid Doesn't Help
Hi My Kid is 6 years old baby girl and is suffering from Nephrotic Syndrome. She has lot of swelling and rashes in the start of disease (March 2017). Prednisolone steroid is also not working for her even having different doses from last 7 months. Finally doctor asked to go for biopsy. What is the further treatment and line of course if steroid doesn’t help !!

Answer: From what you said, I suspicious your daughter of Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). Patients with FSGS are usually steroid-resistant. Renal biopsy is often used when we want to make a clear diagnosis of the disease type. But it is a little invasive, because it may cause infections, bleeding or even kidney damage. After renal biopsy, patients have to lie on bed for 24 hours. It is difficult for a child to have it done. Actually your kids can take other tests such as immunoassay, kidney damage test, tests for immunization, tests for complement and so on instead.

Apart from steroids, you can try other treatment, such as Toxin-Removing Treatment. It has been practiced in Shijiazhuang Hetaiheng Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine for years. This treatment makes use of Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy, Medicated Bath, Foot Bath, Enema Therapy, Steam Therapy, Navel Therapy and so on to eliminate waste products and extra fluid out of body to make internal environment good for kidney self-healing and other medication application. It can also expand blood vessels and remove stasis to improve blood circulation and increase blood flow into kidneys to improve renal ischemia and anoxia. In addition, it can provide the damaged kidneys with enough essential elements to speed up kidney recovery, and it can regulate the abnormal immune system and strengthen immunity to reduce the relapse of Nephrotic Syndrome. Generally speaking, after about one week’s treatment, swelling will disappear. After about one month’s treatment, Nephrotic Syndrome will be under control, and proteinuria will decrease and eventually turn negative.

If steroid does not help, you should take other treatment to halt the progression of Nephrotic Syndrome in case that it causes permanent damage to your kidneys. For more information on Nephrotic Syndrome treatment, please leave a message below or contact online doctor.
